Radcliffe Creek School is an independent K8 school that provides a dynamic, strengths-based learning environment for students with unique learning profiles who benefit from personalized, multisensory instruction. As the only K8 school on Maryland's Eastern Shore created specifically to serve students with learning differences, RCS supports children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, anxiety, and other language-based learning needs. Our faculty use research-based practices grounded in the science of reading, small-group instruction, and integrated services to meet students where they are and help them experience meaningful, lasting success.Guided by our five pillars of growth mindset, care and connection, personalized experience, multisensory instruction, and genuine feedback, we help students discover their strengths and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Many students arrive at Radcliffe Creek after years of frustration, anxiety, and diminished confidence in traditional school settings. At RCS, they are understood, supported, and given the tools to see themselves as bright, capable learners.Our purpose extends beyond academic achievement. We build students' confidence, self-regulation, resilience, and positive sense of self so they are prepared to become compassionate, lifelong learners who shine within and beyond the classroom. Founded in 1996, Radcliffe Creek School is an independent K8 school in Chestertown, Maryland, created from the belief that every child can succeed when given the opportunity to learn in ways that recognize both individual strengths and needs. RCS is the only K8 school on Maryland's Eastern Shore dedicated specifically to educating bright students with unique learning profiles, including students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, anxiety, auditory processing challenges, executive-functioning needs, and other language-based learning differences. The school serves families from eight counties across Maryland, Delaware, and the greater Delmarva region.Radcliffe Creek provides a dynamic, strengths-based learning environment for students who benefit from personalized, multisensory instruction. Guided by five core pillars of growth mindset, care and connection, personalized experience, multisensory instruction, and genuine feedback, the school helps students discover their strengths, create meaningful learning experiences, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. RCS works to build confidence, self-regulation, independence, and a positive sense of self, preparing students to become resilient, compassionate, lifelong learners.At Radcliffe Creek, students are placed at the center of the learning process. Small classes and an average student-teacher ratio of approximately 6:1 allow teachers to know students well and respond to their individual learning needs. Instructional groupings and schedules are flexible, enabling students to receive instruction at the appropriate level rather than being limited strictly by grade. Teachers use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile approaches to make abstract concepts concrete, accessible, and engaging. This personalized approach is known throughout the school community as "The Radcliffe Way."RCS offers a comprehensive academic program that includes structured, research-based reading instruction rooted in the science of reading and the Orton-Gillingham approach; multisensory language arts and mathematics; immersive science and social studies through the school's Discovery program; visual arts, drama, music, physical education, athletics, technology, and enrichment opportunities. Students do not simply read about concepts. They build models, conduct experiments, use movement to reinforce learning, role-play historical figures, create original work, collaborate with peers, and demonstrate understanding in ways that reflect their strengths.The school's whole-child approach recognizes that academic progress is closely connected to social-emotional development, executive functioning, communication, sensory regulation, and physical well-being. The Radcliffe Integrated Services Exchange, known as RISE, provides individual, small-group, and schoolwide support in organization, planning, time management, emotional regulation, relationships, and self-advocacy. On-site occupational therapy supports fine and gross motor development, sensory processing, attention, self-regulation, and executive functioning. Speech-language services address expressive and receptive language, auditory processing, social communication, articulation, and fluency. These specialists collaborate with classroom teachers so strategies are reinforced throughout the school day rather than delivered in isolation.Experiential and outdoor learning are also central to the RCS program. Through the school's No Child Left Indoors initiative, students participate in meaningful outdoor experiences that connect classroom learning with the ecology, history, and culture of the Eastern Shore. Students explore local waterways, forests, farms, and community resources while developing curiosity, collaboration, environmental stewardship, and confidence. Programs such as Boatbuilding 101 integrate mathematics, design, craftsmanship, history, and problem-solving through authentic hands-on projects.Radcliffe Creek continues to expand opportunities that prepare students for a changing world. The CreekWorks Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative introduces students to design thinking, invention, financial literacy, product development, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Integrated Studies provides additional opportunities in areas such as academic support, music, leadership, public speaking, executive functioning, technology, innovation, wellness, and relationships. These experiences allow students to explore interests, practice practical skills, and see themselves as capable creators and problem-solvers.RCS also supports students and families as they prepare for the transition to high school. The school's transition process helps students identify appropriate next-step placements while strengthening the academic foundation, confidence, self-advocacy, and social-emotional skills needed for success. Radcliffe Creek graduates have continued to independent, public, and specialized high schools and have gone on to colleges, graduate programs, military service, and careers across a wide range of fields.For many students, Radcliffe Creek is not simply another educational option. Children often arrive after years of frustration, anxiety, bullying, or diminished confidence in traditional school environments where large classes and limited specialized services have made success difficult. At RCS, they are understood. They begin to recognize that they are bright, capable, and full of potential. They experience the relief and pride of reading aloud without fear, completing work that once felt impossible, developing friendships, discovering new talents, and participating fully in school.Access to this specialized education is a critical part of Radcliffe Creek's purpose. Approximately three-quarters of RCS families receive financial assistance, and the school has committed more than $800,000 in need-based aid and dedicated scholarships for the 20262027 school year. Most families did not anticipate needing a private school and make significant sacrifices to secure an educational setting in which their children can succeed. RCS works with donors, foundations, businesses, and community partners to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent local children from receiving the education they need.Radcliffe Creek is both a school and a regional resource. It builds partnerships with educators, specialists, community organizations, environmental groups, local businesses, and institutions such as Washington College. The school also seeks to share its expertise through professional learning, community education, and outreach related to dyslexia, neurodiversity, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and effective multisensory teaching.As Radcliffe Creek celebrates its 30th year, it remains committed to excellence in teaching, a connected and inclusive community, facilities designed for the future, and long-term financial sustainability. We absolutely love RCS! Our son needs an academically challenging environment but also social pragmatics with in a safe and caring community to help with his anxiety. Radcliffe fits the bill perfectly. He loves school now and doesn't complain about the bus ride from Annapolis as a result. This is how school should be. We are so grateful for RCS!

We are blessed we found Radcliffe Creek School. They are amazing, address all of my sons learning disabilities, sensory impairments and social skills. The low student/teacher ratio is great. They use Ortin Gillingham learning modules which our developmental pediatrician had recommended and has helped him progress so much. They have such a positive attitude and are so encouraging for their students. We highly recommend RCS!
