Old Mill Center for Children and Families in Corvallis, Oregon was founded in 1977 and incorporated in 1980 as a 501c(3) non-profit corporation to serve children with mild or moderate disabilities and otherwise 'at-risk' preschool children who were not eligible for other community services in Benton County.
Over the years, our mission has expanded to provide unique services to children and families in response to community needs in the areas of mental health, special education, occupational/physical/speech therapy, intensive home visiting, and parent education and support.
Children come to Old Mill through referrals from state and county social service agencies, the court systems, physicians, daycare centers, preschools, local school districts, other non-profits and concerned families.
The center is accredited by the State of Oregon Mental Health Division as a provider of outpatient and day treatment program, by the Oregon Childcare Division as a childcare provider, and by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Old Mill Center was founded on three beliefs that continue to drive our programs today: 1) the inclusion classroom concept integrating typically developing children with children with special needs to the mutual benefit of both populations; 2) the vital benefits of serving children during their early and critical developmental years when the greatest impact can be made before frustration and failure become embedded. As needs have evolved, Old Mill Center recognized the necessity of expanding our population to include treating adolescents and young adults at the earliest point of detection, and 3) the belief that major, long-term changes for children are even more permanent when we impact the skills and abilities of parents. Parents include any significant adult in the parent/guardian role. One of our key goals is the 'empowerment of parents' and 'parents as partners'. Old Mill Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive services to families that include skill building, education, information, and emotional support. Frequently it also means helping parents connect with the appropriate community agencies to provide financial, healthcare, employment, childcare, and housing resources. It often means meeting parents in their home where they are more comfortable and trusting. Old Mill Center has evolved into a full-fledged learning environment as well as a vital community resource for all and especially, families at risk.
