Minnetonka Montessori was formed at the Excelsior Congregational Church in 1963 by a group of local parents.
In 1968, Nancy Tampoe arrived from Sri Lanka and was instrumental in promoting the true Montessori method at many of the Montessori schools in the area.
She was trained directly by Maria Montessori and our current directress worked closely with Nancy for many years.
Minnetonka Montessori continues to be a parent-run, non-profit, non-discriminatory organization.
Classes still meet at the Congregational Church at 471 3rd Street in downtown Excelsior.
