About the School
- Mary Immaculate Catholic School, a private school sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame of Toledo, Ohio, was established in 1960 for a group of children classified as educable mentally retarded.
- In 1974 the student population began to change, and by 1978, the complete school program was transformed into a specialized academic setting for the child with unique learning needs.
- A year after Ladyfield School closed, Mary Immaculate School moved into that building.
- This gave us additional space and the ability to add and improve programs.
- Since students learn differently, Mary Immaculate School specializes in providing a learning environment ideal for those who do not experience success in the traditional classroom.
- Mary Immaculate is another option for students who fall between the cracks.
- Social Skills are so important at Mary Immaculate School because they are the foundation for getting along with others.
- A lack of Social Skills can lead to behavioral difficulties, inattentiveness, peer rejection, emotional problems, difficulty in making friends, inability to form interpersonal relationships, aggressiveness, poor self-concept, academic failure, concentration difficulties, isolation from peers and depression.
