Georgetown Hill Early School was founded in 1980 by Ellen Cromwell, who now serves as board chair and Head of School.
Georgetown Hill Early School is a non-profit organization, and since 2000 has expanded to multiple campuses in Washington, D.C.
and the Maryland suburbs. The Georgetown Hill School endorses a 鈥渨hole child鈥 approach to teaching and learning that reinforces and expands upon children's natural competencies.
We call our program the P.L.A.N. curriculum, as developed by Ellen Cromwell in her book, Nurturing Readiness in Early Childhood Education A Whole Child Model for children 2-5, Allyn & Bacon.
The primary components of the curriculum are play, learning, the arts and nurturing.
The P.L.A.N. curriculum cultivates learning by integrating activities that promote each child's multiple intelligence's.
In a carefully planned yet creative environment, children are given opportunities to acquire knowledge as they build upon emerging interests and develop friendships.
Cognitive, social and physical development are fostered through relationships, the creative arts, foundational content areas, basic skills mastery, values training and motor skills acquisition.
